Charles Frederick Mielatz (1864-1919) was a Prussian-born American artist known primarily for his etchings.  He is considered a pioneer of multi-plate color etchings.  Mielatz studied at the Chicago School of Design and Painting, and in 1904, he became one of the first etching teachers at the National Academy of Design in New York City.  He was a member of the New York Etching Club, the Brooklyn Society of Etchers, and was an associate member of the National Academy of Design. Mielatz’s work is included in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Smithsonian American Art Museum, Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Fine Arts Museum of San Francisco, and the National Gallery of Art.
