CloseKnit

Knitting is a maritime tradition, as mariners in the Age of Sail had to make their own jerseys and nets.  This inspired CloseKnit, a free, open-enrollment program, that during normal times, meets at the museum from 2 to 4 PM on the first Thursday of each month to make hats and scarves for mariners and families in need.  Last year we distributed nearly 300 knitted goods to organizations such as Project Hospitality, the Elizabeth Coalition to House the Homeless, the maternity ward at Richmond University Medical Center, and the Seamen's Church Institute's Christmas at Sea program.  If you are a knitter, consider making some knitted goods at home.
