Larry Kirwan will present Rock & Read, a show that combines music and literature, highlighted by history, politics, and Kirwan’s own autobiography, at the Noble Maritime Collection on Friday, January 17 at 8 PM.

Rock & Read is based on Kirwan’s memoir, Green Suede Shoes, two novels, Liverpool Fantasy and Rockin’ The Bronx, and combines readings and stories interspersed with relevant songs from Black 47, the Irish political band Kirwan formed in 1989. They have performed over 2,500 gigs, and appeared on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, The Late Show with David Letterman, and Late Night with Conan O’Brien. Kirwan’s songs have been featured in many movies, TV shows, and plays, including recent editions of Sons of Anarchy, Gossip Girl, and Tom Hanks’ Lucky Guy on Broadway; they are also used in hundreds of college and high school history and political science classes. An accomplished playwright and composer, Kirwan has written thirteen plays and musicals. He hosts and produces SiriusXM’s Celtic Crush and writes a weekly column for the Irish Echo. The Daily News named him one of the Top Fifty most interesting New Yorkers.

The show has been performed in colleges from Princeton to Missouri State and at arts centers, libraries and festivals in Ireland and the United States. We are delighted to host this special presentation at the museum this winter.

Tickets are $25 per person and are on sale now. You may purchase them on this webpage, or call the museum at (718) 447-6490.
