John Stobart, R.A. is the master painter whose panoramic compositions recall the history of the maritime industry across the globe. Hailed as “the premier maritime artist of our time” by the New York Times, the internationally acclaimed artist began making limited edition prints from his paintings in 1974 and has donated one to each of our auctions for the past 20 years. Working with skilled printers, he supervised each edition of the prints, many of which are now sold out, as he has stopped that practice to concentrate solely on painting. Stobart’s work is in the major maritime collections in the country, and as a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Art, he has an international reputation. He joined the Board of Trustees of the Noble Maritime Collection in 2001, and he was Noble’s long-time colleague.
